As you are aware, Queensland was impacted by Cyclone Alfred two weeks ago. During the weather event, the following critical disruptions occurred:

  • Brisbane port terminals were closed
  • Vessels omitted Brisbane from their port rotation
  • Transport operations were suspended
  • Empty container parks were shut down

These disruptions significantly halted the normal flow of container movements through the Port of Brisbane.

Current Situation – Surge in Vessel Arrivals

Now that operations have resumed, we are experiencing the anticipated surge of multiple vessels arriving simultaneously. This is placing pressure across the entire supply chain and resulting in the following:

Terminal Congestion

  • Wharf slot allocations may change frequently as we coordinate with terminals in real time
  • Containers moved in bulk or stack runs are facing slower discharge times than usual

Delivery Scheduling Constraints

  • Capacity is severely limited for containers that were not pre-scheduled for delivery
  • This is due to an unnatural influx of volume across all services simultaneously

Our Commitment & Mitigation Measures

While our priority remains on prompt collection and delivery, our operations are constrained by terminal access and broader capacity limits. In anticipation of this post-cyclone backlog, we have taken proactive steps, including:

  • Expanding our resources to handle as much of the increased volume as possible
  • Working closely with terminals, transport providers, and stakeholders to minimize delays
