The Owners of the Prime Movers Association in Bangladesh have called for a 48-hour strike starting 10th February 2025 (Monday, 6:00 A.M. local time). As a result, we anticipate a complete halt in all trailer movements, which will significantly impact port and cargo operations.
Operational Impact
Container Yard (CY) Update:
- Discharging & Loading: Operations may continue using the Berth Operator’s trailer.
- Import Deliveries: Expected to be severely hampered.
- Yard Occupancy: Likely to increase due to restricted cargo movement.
Container Freight Station (CFS) Update:
- Import Deliveries: Deliveries to depots will be affected.
- Labor Availability: Remains normal.
- Stuffing Operations: Expected to face bottlenecks.
- Export Dispatches: Likely to experience delays.
Overall Impact on Vessel Operations:
- Vessel Waiting Times: Already increased to 3-4 days for both geared and gearless vessels due to previous disruptions.
- Berthing Vessel Laytime: Increased by 1 to 2 days.
- Sailing Schedules: May be affected if the strike continues for the full 48 hours.
- Contingency Risk: A last-moment strike withdrawal could lead to significant “No Show” or “Shut Out” situations due to a “cut and run” scenario.
We are closely monitoring the situation and will make sure to provide further updates as needed. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this period.
