Our transport partners have advised of constraints they continue to face across the Auckland region due to empty container congestion. The impact from last week’s Cyclone Gabrielle, combined with flooding three weeks prior and two long weekends in between, has inevitably hindered the ability to provide efficient cartage services.
Currently, there are two significant issues we are still facing, these are:
- The liquidation of a shipping line a week ago, which has left many empty containers without a home; and
- Ports of Auckland’s empty depot LINK having been closed all week.
The second issue has been exacerbated due to the initial advice from carriers indicating OCP was due to stay closed until March 09. Consequently, various shipping lines were forced to find alternative depots, such as Fergusson Link, which is now at capacity.
OCP has since resumed operations; however, they are only taking manual bookings, which can take a few days to get a response.
We thank you for your patience over the past few weeks and do apologise for any inconvenience caused. With a full week ahead and the weather forecasted to improve, it is expected transport providers will be in a position to clear some of the backlogs resulting from these issues.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact your local Kerry representative.
